Flame retardant chemicals are a fixture in furniture. But those chemicals - many of them toxic - have leached into human bodies and can be found in virtually every American. The effects are especially bad for firefighters who may breath in the chemicals in the course of fighting a fire. The documentary Toxic Hot Seat shows just how serious the problem can be. Former Speaker of the Maine House of Representatives Hannah Pingree helped introduce and push through legislation to scale down on the use of those chemicals in furniture in Maine.

A new documentary highlights a slew of toxic chemicals hiding in our furniture that have made their way into the bodies of virtually every American.
