FALMOUTH, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The University of Maine men's hockey team is back in southern Maine, getting ready for Saturday's match-up against Brown University.
But on Friday, the Black Bears hosted a 'Skate with the Bears' event. Fans of all ages gathered at the Family Ice Center in Falmouth to meet the men's hockey team. The event allowed fans to skate with the players, have their pictures taken and even get some autographs.
The University of Maine has been holding this event for years, and Coach Red Gendron said it's a way for the team to interact with the community.
"It's always been a part of Black Bear hockey that the team has been accessible for the citizens and the fans in the state of Maine. When you see young faces light up when some of these guys are signing autographs, it's really a wonderful thing," said Coach Gendron.
There will be another 'Skate with the Bears' event on Saturday, December 10th at the Alfond Arena in Orono.
