U-Maine men and women both fall short

Maine women run into South Carolina buzz-saw

(NEWS CENTER)-- The University of Maine women's basketball team (2-3) dropped a 79-42 decision to #3 South Carolina (3-0) on Monday evening at the Colonial Life Arena.

Maine was able to take care of the ball against a South Carolina team which entered averaging 20.5 take aways. Maine, which turned the ball over just 13 times, saw glimpses of greatness against one of the top teams in the nation and the preseason favorites to win the Southeastern Conference.

Maine looks for its second win of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Women's Challenge tomorrow when it takes on Hampton at 5 p.m.

Meanwhile, the men's team fell to LIU Brooklyn despite a second half surge, 71-66.
