NHL awards go to 2 players with local ties

(NEWS CENTER)-- The NHL announced its Stars of March today and two of the three players are of particular interest to hockey fans in New England.

Former U-Maine Black Bear, and current Detroit Red Wing, Gustav Nyquist was one of the honorees. Nyquist had the 2nd most goals in the league in the month of March with a total of 12.. That played a big part in the Red Wings moving into 7th place in the Eastern Conference Standings.

The only player that scored more than Nyquist last month was Bruins forward Jerome Iginla, who was also named a star. The ageless one found the back of the net 13 times last month and part of that was five game-winning goals. The Bruins and Red Wings will play each other Wednesday night in Detroit in what could be a first round playoff preview.
