(USA TODAY Sports, A.J. Perez) — Actor Mark Wahlberg, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and Patriots owner Robert Kraft are among the new owners of UFC as part of WME/IMG’s acquisition of the promotion.
The talent agency teamed with Silver Lake Partners, KKR, MSD Capital, L.P. and MSD Partners, L.P. to purchase UFC for $4 billion in July. Las Vegas casino magnates Lorenzo and Frank Fertitta had owned a majority stake in UFC, which they purchased for $2 million in 2001.
Other celebrity owners who have a stake in UFC, according to a news release on Friday: Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye, Adam Levine, Anthony Kiedis, Ben Affleck, Calvin Harris, Cam Newton, Conan O’Brien, Flea, Guy Fieri, Jimmy Kimmel, Li Na, LL COOL J, Maria Sharapova, Michael Bay, Rob Dyrdek, Serena Williams, Sylvester Stallone, Trey Parker, Tyler Perry and Venus Williams.
“Expanding our ownership group to include this caliber of talent and entrepreneurs is a strong indicator of UFC’s fast-growing global presence,” UFC President Dana White said in a statement. “Our new investors bring an incredible depth of knowledge and experience to help us continue to elevate this brand and capitalize on its entertainment and sports crossover appeal.”
