Holy Cross to resume rivalry with Boston College

Worcester, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Holy Cross and Boston College football teams have not played each other since 1986, but they announced future plans on Friday to resume a long-standing rivalry.

The two Massachusetts programs will face other in the 2018 and 2020 seasons, with both games being played at BC's Alumni Stadium in Chestnut Hill. The dates are Sept. 8, 2018, and Sept. 5, 2020.

"We are excited to be scheduling games against FBS opponents, especially one of our longtime traditional rivals in Boston College," said Holy Cross coach Tom Gilmore, whose Patriot League program returned to the scholarship level last year.

"The alumni from both schools have been looking forward to the return of this game."

Boston College hosts a 47-32-3 all-time lead. Their 82 meetings are the most games against any opponent for either school.

The schools last played on Nov. 22, 1986 at Holy Cross, with Boston College winning, 56-26. It was the Eagles' eighth straight win in the series.
