Reports: UMaine hires new men's basketball coach

(NEWS CENTER) – Rhode Island College men's basketball coach Bob Walsh will be the next head coach at the University of Maine, according to multiple reports.

NEWS CENTER sources confirmed that Walsh had been offered the position.

Several blogs covering college basketball cited sources saying the Black Bears offered Walsh a contract to be Ted Woodward's successor.

Woodward was fired as the men's basketball coach after holding that position for 10 seasons.

Walsh has had a very successful career at RIC. Walsh has led the Anchormen to a 184-54 record over his 9 year tenure. During his time as head coach, RIC has won 5 Little East Conference regular season championships, five Little East Tournament Championship, and qualified for the past 8 NCAA tournaments.

NEWS CENTER contacted the University of Maine, who would not confirm nor deny Walsh's hiring.
