Sox Doubront makes rehab appearances in Sea Dogs win

PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Red Sox pitcher Felix Doubront gave up two runs in four innings in a rehab assignment and Stefan Welch drove in two runs on two triples as the Sea Dogs won their rubber game against Erie, 5-3 on Thursday.

Doubront, who made his first rehab appearance since May 21 with a left shoulder strain, suffered a scare against his final batter when Erie's Francisco Martinez hit a line drive off his shin. Deven Marrero threw out the Martinez on the play to close out the top of the fourth and Doubront was okay. Along with two runs, Doubront allowed three hits with two strikeouts. Of his 43 pitches, 31 were strikes.

Welch broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the eighth with a two-run triple. Jonathan Roof provided an insurance run when he drove Welch with an RBI single to left.

Mike McCarthy (5-2) retired the last 11 batters he faced giving up one run over four innings for the win.

Portland (40-20) will start a three-game series with Bowie on Friday.
