Sea Dogs pitcher McCarthy helps spread baseball to underprivileged

PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Tuesday is Portland Sea Dogs Spotlight Day. This week NEWS CENTER'S Jeff Schools sits down with Sea Dogs pitcher Mike McCarthy who is trying to help underprivileged kids play ball.

McCarthy and the Portland Sea Dogs will be hosting equipment collections June 6 through June 8 we during games.

The equipment collected will go to underprivileged youth via Baseball Miracles.

McCarthy has been a part of Baseball Miracles for about a year now, teaching baseball to underprivileged youth in Ireland this past January. They will have camps scheduled in Kenya, Israel and Poland over the next two years.

Members of the group include Hall of Fame Scout John Tumminia and former MLB Pitcher Rob Bell.
