Barron given new role at UMaine

ORONO, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- UMaine women's basketball head coach Richard Barron, who stepped away from his role last January due to illness, has been given a seven month temporary position as Special Assistant to the Director of Athletics.

In a statement, the University of Maine said Barron's primary responsibilities will be to represent the Athletics Department at public events and assist with fundraising for the Alfond Fund. Barron will be paid $53,000, the amount remaining unused from his contract after Amy Vachon was appointed interim head coach of the team.

Whether Barron will return to coaching after his seven month job position concludes is unclear.
