New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Connecticut remained an undisputed choice
as the top-ranked women's college basketball team in the latest Associated
The undefeated Huskies again received all 36 first-place votes and 900 points
from a nationwide media panel.
Notre Dame, also unbeaten, held the No. 2 position and is followed by
Stanford, Louisville and Duke. The Blue Devils slipped two spots from third
after Sunday's 21-point home loss to the Fighting Irish.
South Carolina, Baylor, Tennessee, Penn State and Maryland round out the top
10. Penn State moved up three spots from 12th, while Maryland dropped two
spots from eighth.
The second 10 consists of Arizona State, Oklahoma State, North Carolina, North
Carolina State, Kentucky, LSU, West Virginia, Vanderbilt, Texas A&M and
Gonzaga. North Carolina tumbled seven places from sixth after a home loss to
Syracuse last week.
Middle Tennessee, Nebraska, California, Michigan State and Purdue are the last
five teams ranked. Nebraska and Michigan State are this week's newcomers,
replacing Florida State and Iowa State.
This week's big contest features Louisville at Connecticut on Sunday in a
rematch of last year's national championship game won by the Huskies.
