(NEWS CENTER) - The 2013 Fitzpatrick Trophy finalists have been announced. Cony's Ben Lucas, Kennebunk's Nicco DeLorenzo and Portland's Justin Zukowski are the final 3 of 12 semifinalists and will head to the banquet January 19th.
Ben Lucas, Cony's ultimate weapon, helped lead the Rams to the Class B state title in Orono against Nicco DeLorenzo's Kennebunk Rams. Lucas broke Lee St. Hilaire's passing TDs state record with a new mark of 89 touchdowns while passing for over 7,000 yards. Lucas led the potent Cony offense to the state title passing for 21 touchdowns and 1,400 yards this 2013 season.
Justin Zukowski, the Portland Bulldogs backbone, was a standout on offense and defense. Zukowski led Eastern Maine rushing with almost 1,600 yards and was the second leading tackler in Eastern Maine with 90 solo and assisted tackles on defense.
Nicco DeLorenzo had a spectacular season for the Class B runner-up Kennebunk Rams. DeLorenzo had many spectacular runs, taking home one Fifth Quarter Play of the Week during the season. DeLorenzo finished the Class B Western Championship season with nearly 1,300 yards rushing.
The three finalists are culled from the list of 12 by voters from the high school coaching ranks as well as members of the media. The award will be announced at the banquet on January 19th.
