(NEWS CENTER) - Bonny Eagle, Cony, and Leavitt booked the first three tickets to football's Gold Ball weekend with impressive regional final wins on Friday.
In Class 'A' West, #1 Bonny Eagle avenged their lone loss during the regular season by beating #2 Thornton Academy in Standish by a 28-13 final. It's the Scots five state final in the past 10 seasons. Bonny will play the winner of the Saturday's Class 'A' East final between Portland and Cheverus.
Meanwhile in 'B' East, Cony lost a pair of games during the season. The Rams exacted some revenge as well as they went to Brunswick and beat the top-seeded Dragons 48-38. Cony QB Ben Lucas threw five touchdown passes and broke the state record of 84 career TD's tosses in the victory. He has 86 heading into the Class 'B' final as Cony will play with either Marshwood or Kennebunk out of 'B' West.
Lastly in Class 'C' West, Spruce Mountain's bid for payback came up well short in Turner as the unbeaten Hornets ran past Spruce Mountain 48-21. The (9-0) Hornets have outscored their opponents 405-62 this season. Their opponents for the Class 'C' Crown will be decided in the Eastern Maine regional between Waterville and Winslow.
