Washington, D.C. (SportsNetwork.com) - The Chicago Fire continued its playoff push on Friday with a 3-0 win at D.C. United that included first-half goals from Jeff Larentowicz and Bakary Soumare.

The win vaults the Fire into fifth place in the Eastern Conference, one point clear of the Philadelphia Union for the final playoff spot, while United is winless in nine straight league games after lifting the U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday.

United seemed to take some momentum from Tuesday's win as the home side came out strong in the first 20 minutes and nearly went in front when Jared Jeffrey struck the post with a shot from outside the penalty area.

But Chicago scored against the run of play in the 24th minute as Juan Luis Anangono beat two defenders on the right wing and slipped a pass into the six- yard box for Larentowicz to tuck inside the near post from a tight angle.

United was still recovering from the first goal when the visitors hit again in the 26th, this time from a set piece.

The ball was played into the box and bounced around before Soumare pounced to fire home his first MLS goal.

Nick DeLeon tried to spark a United rally but he was twice denied by fine stops from goalkeeper Sean Johnson after the break, while Quincy Amarikwa capped the scoring in the final few minutes with a header from Dilly Duka's cross.
