USM baseball team advances to New England Regional Championship

HARWICH, Massachusetts (NEWS CENTER) -- The USM baseball team beat Western New England University, 7-0, early Saturday to move onto the next round in the NCAA Division III New England Regional. Then later in the day, the Huskies beat Endicott College, 5-2, to move onto the championship game.

Former Messalonskee standout Sam Dexter went 3-for-5 in the game against the Gulls. Former South Portland pitcher Andrew Richards earned the win. He went 5 2/3 innings, giving up 1 run on 6 hits and striking out 4.

USM is 4-1 in the double elimination tournament, while Endicott is 3-1. The two teams will play for the championship on Sunday at noon.
