Acapulco, MX (Sports Network) - Top-seeded and reigning Acapulco champion Sara
Errani earned a straight-set victory over Kiki Bertens in Thursday's
quarterfinals at the Mexican Open tennis event.
Errani, the 2012 French Open runner-up and last week's Dubai runner-up, saved
5-of-8 break point opportunities, as she cruised past fifth-ranked Bertens of
the Netherlands, 6-4, 6-4 on the red clay at the Fairmont Acapulco Princess.
No. 2 seed Carla Suarez Navarro snuck past sixth-seeded Francesca Schiavone
6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 6-2, in just over three hours.
Alize Cornet outlasted Lourdes Dominguez Lino, 3-6, 7-6 (12-10), 7-6 (7-2) in
a match that lasted just over 3 1/2 hours. Cornet was a finalist at this event
in 2008.
In other action between unseeded opponents, Silvia Soler-Espinosa defeated
Karin Knapp, 6-2, 6-2.
The 2013 Acapulco champ will collect $40,000.
