Tallahassee, FL (Sports Network) - Alexa Deluzio made the best of an extra
opportunity, knocking down a free throw with seven seconds left to lift 24th-
ranked Florida State to a 72-71 win over No. 9 Maryland on Thursday.
With the game knotted at 71-71, Deluzio was fouled and went to the line for a
pair of free throws. Deluzio bricked the first try and saw her second attempt
rim out, but Maryland was whistled for a lane violation to give her another
opportunity to put the Seminoles in front.
The senior guard knocked it down and the Terrapin's desperation heave was no
good as the Seminoles (21-7, 11-6 ACC) secured the No. 4 seed and an opening
round bye in the upcoming ACC tournament.
Chelsea Davis poured in a team-high 19 points for the Seminoles.
Katie Rutan chipped in 24 points and Alyssa Thomas finished with 17 points for
the Terrapins (22-6, 13-4).
Florida State led 64-47 with just over 4 1/2 minutes left, but Maryland used a
24-7 surge to tie the game with 10 seconds to play.
