Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (Sports Network) - Top seed and former world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki was a stunning first-round loser Wednesday at the hardcourt Malaysian Open tennis event.

The 10th-ranked Danish star was ousted by unknown 22-year-old Chinese qualifier Qiang Wang, 2-6, 7-6 (7-1), 6-1, in 2 hours, 16 minutes.

A trio of other seeds avoided upsets, as No. 3 Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova overcame fellow Russian Vera Dushevina 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (8-6), No. 4 Japanese Ayumi Morita whipped Turk Cagla Buyukakcay, 6-1, 6-1 and No. 7 Eleni Daniilidou of Greece came back to best Ukrainian Yulia Beygelzimer 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.

A mild upset came when Kazakhstan's Zarina Diyas doused eighth-seeded Czech Kristyna Pliskova 6-7 (5-7), 6-1, 7-5.

Japan's Kurumi Nara was leading second-seeded and defending champion Su-Wei Hsieh of Taipei 2-1 in the first set when play was suspended until Thursday.

Hsieh beat Croat Petra Martic in last year's finale.

Rain wreaked havoc over the first two days in Kuala Lumpur, as the second round has now pushed into Day 4.

Other opening-round winners were Aussie Ashleigh Barty, Uzbekistan's Akgul Amanmuradova, Thailand's Nudnida Luangnam and Luksika Kumkhum, and Chinese Duan Ying-Ying and Zhang Shuai.
