University Park, PA (Sports Network) - Maggie Lucas had 21 points and five
rebounds to give No. 7 Penn State a 68-57 win over Michigan on Sunday.
Mia Nickson had 11 points and eight rebounds while Alex Bentley added 11
points and five assists for the Lady Lions (23-3, 12-1 Big Ten), who have won
six straight.
Kate Thompson had a game-high 25 points along with six rebounds for the
Wolverines (19-8, 8-6), who have dropped their past two. Nya Jordan added 14
points and 10 boards in the loss.
Michigan's only lead of the game came when Rachel Sheffer put in a layup for
the first points of the game. Penn State scored the next five to kickoff a
23-2 run to take a large lead.
Thompson hit a bucket at the buzzer, but that cut Michigan's deficit to just
14 as the Lady Lions took a 40-26 advantage into the break.
Sheffer hit a 3-pointer with 11 minutes to play and cut the Wolverines'
deficit to 52-48, but neither side hit a bucket for close to four minutes
until Ariel Edwards' with a 3-ball.
The closest Michigan got the rest of the way was seven points back.
