Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - The Philadelphia Phillies agreed to terms
with infielder Yuniesky Betancourt on a minor league contract Monday. The deal
includes an invitation to spring training.
Betancourt began last season with Kansas City and batted .228 with seven home
runs and 36 RBI over 57 games before being released by the Royals in August.
The 30-year-old is a career .266 hitter over eight major league seasons,
however, and combined for 29 homers and 146 RBI between the 2010 and 2011
campaigns.
The Cuban native, who will get a chance to compete for a backup job in spring
training, has compiled 67 homers and 411 RBI in stops with Seattle, Kansas
City and Milwaukee.
