Black Bears bounced by Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Justin Edwards (Whitby, Ontario) notched a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds but the University of Maine men's basketball team fell to the reigning Atlantic Coast Conference champion Florida State by the score of 91-59 on Sunday afternoon at the Donald L. Tucker Center. Maine falls to 3-6 on the year while Florida State is now 5-4.

The Seminoles took a quick 13-4 lead, but Maine responded to go on a 6-to-one run closing the gap to 14-10 with 12:52 left.

Florida State took a 24-13 lead, but Maine closed the gap to 24-18 on a pair of Edwards free throws and a Jon Mesghna (Frankfurt, Germany) free throw.

Following a Seminole bucket Edwards converted a nifty layup to keep it a six-point game, but Florida State caught fire to end the half taking a 41-27 lead into intermission.

Edwards led Maine with 10 points, five rebounds and two assists while Mike Alison (Lynden, Ontario) added six points, five rebounds and three blocks.

The hot-shooting Seminoles increased the lead to 57-35 with 13:20 left, and Maine continued to try to chip into the lead but the reigning ACC Champions pulled away.

Allison finished with nine points, 11 rebounds and four blocks while freshman Dimitry Akanda-Coronel (Boston, Mass.) added 11 points. Edwards was named Maine's America East Player of the Game.

Maine outrebounded Florida State 43-42, but shot 33.9 percent to Florida State's 43.8 percent.

Florida State was led by Michael Snaer who had 19 points and six rebounds.
