(Sports Network) - The San Antonio Spurs are the lone unbeaten team in the
Western Conference and have the most wins in the entire NBA.
The 4-0 Spurs will hit the road for four games, starting with tonight's tilt
against the Los Angeles Clippers at Staples Center. The Spurs are off to the
best start in franchise history and completed a perfect three-game homestand
with a 101-79 win versus the Indiana Pacers on Monday.
Gary Neal scored 17 points and both Tim Duncan and DeJuan Blair had 14 points
and 11 rebounds. Duncan leads all active players with 734 career double-
doubles for the Spurs, who have scored 100-plus points in back-to-back games.
"We moved the ball well," Spurs swingman Manu Ginobili said. "Gary was
impressive today. But yeah, we changed the tempo of the game. We did good -
much better than the last game."
Ginobili has appeared in 669 games and is one game away from passing Sean
Elliott, who appeared in 669 games, for fifth place on San Antonio's all-time
games played list.
San Antonio is slated to visit the Kings, Blazers and Lakers on its road trip.
The Clippers have dropped two straight since opening the 2012-13 campaign with
consecutive victories. In Monday's 108-101 setback versus Cleveland, Blake
Griffin led six players in double figures with 20 points and Jamal Crawford
netted 19 off the bench. Crawford is the first player since the 1988-89 season
to score 96 points off the bench in the first four games of the season.
Chris Paul ended with 17 points, nine assists and five rebounds, as the
Clippers fell into the loss column despite shooting 52.7 percent. The Clippers
made only 9-of-25 three-point attempts and had 25 turnovers.
"We had too many turnovers and their offensive rebounds controlled the tempo
of the game," Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro said. "It seemed like we were
rushing. We tried to go too fast."
Los Angeles is in the midst of playing three straight home games (0-2) and six
of seven at Staples Center.
The Clippers and Spurs are meeting for the first time since the playoffs, when
San Antonio swept L.A. in four games during the second round. The Spurs won
two of three in the regular season and are 30-4 in the previous 34 matchups
between the teams.
San Antonio has won 13 of its last 15 games as the guest in this series.
