ORONO (NEWS CENTER) - It was a matter of execution in the red zone.  UMaine couldn't.  Albany could.  As a result, the Black Bears dropped their home opener 30-20.

Despite outrushing Albany 247 to 135 yards, it was three Great Dane TD runs of 74, 9, and 37 yards that provided the visitors offense with just enough scores.  Albany outgained Maine by a two-to-one ratio in the air: 264 to 132 yards.

The Black Bears were shutout in a half for the second time in three games as they fell behind to the Great Danes 9-0 at the break.

Marcus Wasilewski got Maine back in the game with a 19-yard TD pass to DaMarr Aultman in the the beginning of the third quarter make it 9-7.  However, on the very next play from scrimmage Kevin Chillis ran for that 74 yard score maintaining a two-possession cushion for the rest of the contest.

The Black Bears now 1-2 on the season, open up league play when they host Villanova next Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
