(NEWS CENTER)-- While most eyes in the sporting world are fixed on the games in London, a huge sporting event closer to home is about to reach a major milestone. 6-thousand runners from around the world will be taking part in the 15th Beach to Beacon in Cape Elizabeth on Saturday.
Race founder, and Olympic Gold Medalist Joan Benoit Samuelson says the race keeps getting better and bigger each year. She says the dedication of the organizing committee and the more than 700 volunteers has helped make the event a highlight of the road racing circuit for elite runners and recreational runners alike. In looking back, Joanie says her moment of Olympic Glory was due to a combination of dedication and timing.
