Houston, TX (Sports Network) - Cynthia Cooper-Dyke resigned as head women's
basketball coach at UNC-Wilmington on Tuesday and was set to be hired for the
same position at Texas Southern.
"Cynthia Cooper-Dyke is the sole finalist for our women's basketball position
and she will be our next head coach pending final approval," Texas Southern
athletic director Dr. Charles McClelland said in a statement.
Cooper-Dyke led UNC-Wilmington to back-to-back appearances in the women's NIT
and was coming off a 20-13 record this past season.
She is a former college great at USC, an Olympic gold medalist, a WNBA Most
Valuable Player and a member of the Basketball Hall of Fame.
Cooper-Dyke would replace Yolanda Wells-Broughton, who resigned last Friday
after four seasons as head coach at Texas Southern.
