BALTIMORE, Maryland (Sports Network) - Derek Jeter was 4-for-4, Ivan Nova struck out
seven batters in seven inning and the New York Yankees topped the Baltimore
Orioles, 6-2, on Monday night for their first win of the season.
The Yankees, swept in a three-game series at Tampa Bay to begin the season,
avoided their first 0-4 start since 1973 despite giving up 13 hits in the
opener of this three-game set.
Nova (1-0) surrendered two runs and 10 hits, but didn't issue a walk and got
out of numerous jams, while Andruw Jones hit a solo homer in the victory.
Matt Wieters was 4-for-4 with a solo shot for the Orioles, who suffered their
first loss after sweeping a three-game series against Minnesota to open the
season.
Brian Matusz (0-1) threw 96 pitches in just four innings and gave up four runs
on six hits and four walks to take the loss.
