FRYEBURG, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Police in Fryeburg say they have recovered a diamond ring worth $25,000 that was stolen from a home in New Hampshire.
Police say 18 year old Rod Desroche of Denmark gave the ring to his girlfriend as a "promise ring." The couple later split up, and the girl's father decided to have the ring appraised. When he found out what it was worth he called police, suspecting it had been stolen.
Police brought Desroche in for questioning. He originally told them he found the ring in a parking lot and had no idea what it was worth. However, after being questioned for a second time, police say Desroche confessed to stealing the ring from a home in Bartlett, NH where he had been doing work for the homeowner.
Desroche has been charged with lying to police here in Maine. Further charges may be brought against him in New Hampshire.
