Chris Brown and Brett Wickard from Bull Moose take us through some new releases this week, including two TV shows with devoted, nearly cultish fan bases and several new CDs.

Game of Thrones - Season 3 DVD or Blu-ray
Season three includes the most shocking episode of this excellent violent fantasy series. The less said the better, so we don't spoil it for those who haven't seen it yet and have not read the books.
St. Paul & The Broken Bones - Half The City CD or LP
St. Paul & The Broken Bones are an up-and-coming soul band. They are heavily influenced by the classic soul sound of labels like Stax and Motown. I hear some Janis Joplin in singer Paul Janeway's unrestrained vocals. They are young - just out of college - so they bring a lot of energy and a slightly different perspective to this music.
Lake Street Dive - Bad Self Portraits CD
Lake Street Dive is another young band with a powerful singer whose music is rooted in the past. They all were jazz students in Boston, but with the exception of the lead vocals, the jazz influence is somewhat hidden. Overall, the sound comes a little closer to a 60s girl-groups feel, with a touch of rock sprinkled over the top. This album was recorded in a farmhouse in Parsonfield, ME that has been converted to a recording studio.
Talib Kweli - Gravitas CD
What an appropriately named CD. Rapper Talib Kweli is very serious on nine of this album's eleven tracks and he believes that his 15+ years of experience in hip-hop gives him enough gravitas to be listened to. He released the album himself in December, but it sold poorly because few people could actually get it. This week it sees wide release through normal sales channels.
Battlestar Galactica - The Complete Epic Series DVD
This is an affordable reissue of the all episodes of the ill-fated 1978 TV series. It was campy at times, but lots of fun, and has a sizeable cult following. This set includes deleted scenes from 15 of the 24 episodes. The three-hour pilot has a commentary track featuring the actors who played Apollo, Starbuck, and Boomer.
