SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Each year, Maine's credit unions hold fundraisers to raise money in the fight against hunger, and this year they've announced a record-breaking total raised by their members.
There are more than 600-thousand credit union members in the state, and each one of them was honored at Tuesday's results celebration event.
According to Maine Credit Union League president, John Murphy, this is the 18th consecutive year the campaign has raised a record-setting total.
Over $513-thousand was raised in 2013 at credit union locations throughout the state. Overall, since the initiation of the campaign in 1990, more than $5-million has been raised in the fight against hunger.
