PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The cause of the three-alarm fire at an apartment building on Irving Street will not be determined.
The Portland Fire Department released a statement Thursday, noting the investigation did not turn up enough physical evidence to determine the cause.
The fire destroyed the apartment building on January 19. The severe damage hindered investigator's abilities to safely enter the remnants of the building.
City officials have "deemed that the building is dangerous and individials should not enter," Fire Chief Jerome LaMorisa said. "Anyone entering the building does so at their own risk."
LaMorisa credits smoke detectors with saving the lives of those inside the building that evening. No injuries were reported.
