BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- The woman charged with torturing and murdering her husband will not take the stand in her own defense. The defense rested in the Roxanne Jeskey murder trial without the defendant taking the stand as was expected.
Jeskey has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. Monday the court heard from an expert for the defense who claims she had an "out of body experience" the night she allegedly killed her husband.
Doctor Richard Dorian told the court Roxanne Jeskey suffers from PTSD stemming from a childhood of abuse.
According to Dr. Dorian, the conflict between her and her husband, Richard Jeskey, triggered something in the defendant causing her to think her husband was actually her step father who abused her. The state will call rebuttal witnesses tomorrow before closing arguments.
If convicted she will face 25 to life behind bars. If the judge finds her not guilty, Jeskey will be placed in a psychiatric ward until she is deemed no longer a threat to society.
