LEWISTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- After 20 years at the Civic Center in Portland, the Pirates opened their season in their new home: Lewiston.
The American Hockey League team announced last month it would play all home games this season at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee because of a dispute with the Cumberland County Civic Center over terms of a new lease.
Hockey fans in Lewiston say it's Portland's loss and their gain.
The area has a strong background in hockey, and since the Mainiacs left 2 years ago the Colisee hasn't had a solid tenant.
Local sports pubs like Gridiron in Lewiston, and Gritty's in Auburn say home games will attract more business for them. Gritty's is already offering a deal for those who come in with a ticket.
