SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Police in South Portland report that there has been a recent surge in burglaries and are warning residents to secure their homes.
Police say 46 burglaries have been reported since the beginning of July. 11 of them specifically in the Redbank area. Among those 6 in the past week. Police say this is twice as much as this time last year.
Police warn residents that the burglars are getting access from unlocked doors and windows. They seem to be taking mostly electronics.
Police also advise residents to record their electronics serial numbers, or take images of those devices with their serial numbers. This helps police return stolen items if recovered.
Police ask residents to call 911 if they witness a burglary or to report something suspicious call the non-emergency line at 874-8575.
