PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - The Scott Parsons era at Deering High School lasted just four games as the Rams head football coach resigned Wednesday.
According to athletic director Melanie Craig, principal Ira Waltz has accepted Parson's letter of resignation. Matt Riddell has been named the interim coach. Assistants Rob Kierstead, Bill Presby, and Rocco Severino will remain on the staff.
Riddell was scheduled to serve a one-game suspension on Friday after being ejected late in Deering's week four loss to Massabesic that dropped the Rams to 0-4 on the season.
Parsons also served as the Rams offensive coordinator. A Kennebunk High School alum, he played college football at Central Connecticut State. Prior to his first head coaching position with the Rams, he served as a high school and collegiate assistant.
It's the third time in three years a different coach will lead Deering. Parsons took over for current Massabesic head coach Jon Gallant. Gallant coaches the Rams from 2011-12.
