HOULTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- A Houlton man charged with the murder of a couple from Oakfield made his first court appearance on Wednesday.
Court Documents say that 32-year old Matthew Davis of Houlton is believed to be responsible for the deaths of Michael Kitchen and his fiancé Heidi Pratt who were found dead inside Pratt's burnt Oakfield home Monday morning.
Family members and friends of Matthew Davis and the two victims packed the courtroom. Justice Allen Hunter read the charges to Davis who appeared via video conference and said nothing during his initial appearance.
The affidavit reads that Davis stole a vehicle from the home and later set in on fire near the area where he was arrested a short time later. During the investigation, two firearms belonging to Davis were discovered. One lying over Kitchen's body and another inside the stolen vehicle.
The State Medical Examiners office ruled that Kitchen Died from multiple gunshot wounds and an autopsy for Pratt was scheduled for Wednesday.
The judge ruled that Davis be held without bail with his next court appearance scheduled for February 19th. In the meantime, police have not found a connection between Davis and the two victims and no motive was listed in these court records.
