PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Labor leaders want Mainers to remember the reason they have a day off for Labor Day.
More than 150 workers, government and labor leaders will gather Monday morning for the annual Portland Labor Day Breakfast. It's a celebration of workers and their unions, hosted by the Southern Maine Labor Council, AFL-CIO.
Following the breakfast, a brief march is scheduled from the Irish Heritage Center to Longfellow Square.
The Western Maine Labor Council is also hosting three free Labor Day cookouts. The barbecues will be held in Lewiston, Rumford and Jay. Hundreds typically attend the Lewiston celebration, and this will be the first celebration in Rumford. The events all run from 1 to 3:30 p.m.
