SOUTH PARIS, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - The Buckfield man accused of shooting his girlfriend in the face in a domestic violence assault made his first court appearance in South Paris District Court Wednesday afternoon.
Scott Ackley, 41, has been charged with aggravated assault, domestic violence reckless conduct, and domestic violence assault after police say he shot his girlfriend, 38 year old Sharon Demayo Monday night.
Ackley has posted $50,000 in property bail, with conditions that include no contact with Demayo or her son.
"I feel angry," said Demayo's sister, Amy Lieberman. "He almost blew my sister's head off. The doctor said just a little closer and it would have hit her jugular vein, and she would have most likely bled out."
According to court documents, Ackley and Demayo had an argument Monday evening over lost car keys.
Police say after a struggle for a gun, Ackley shot Demayo near her nostril. The bullet exited near her jaw.
Lieberman said her sister is recovering from her first surgery on Tuesday, but may require up to seven surgeries.
"She's not going to look the same," said Lieberman.
