BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER) --- People flying out of Bangor International Airport now have more space to park their cars.
The airport recently opened a new parking lot off of Maine Avenue close to the round about with Godfrey Boulevard. Directors have been working on developing it since last year. The new lot adds close to 500 parking spaces to the airport. Directors say those are necessary to handle the many travelers that fly out of Bangor this time of year, which causes their existing lot near the terminal to fill up quickly.
"Just to give you an example currently we are 20 percent over where we were at this point last year," said Tony Caruso, who is the airport's director, "the year prior was 17 percent higher and the year before that was actually 11 percent higher so again significant demand here during this period."
Hours for the new lot will vary depending on how busy the airport is. Directors say the daily rate to park there will be $6, which is two dollars less then parking in the front lot. There also is a free shuttle to take passengers from the new lot to the airport's terminal.
