PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Can Democrat Cynthia Dill take enough votes away from Independent Angus King and pave the way for Republican Charlie Summers to win the U.S. Senate seat?
Vote splitting became a hot topic of discussion in Maine politics when Republican Paul LePage edged out Independent Eliot Cutler in the 2010 race for Governor. Some believe Cutler split the vote with Democratic candidate Libby Mitchell, giving LePage the win with less than 39-percent of the vote.
It's an issue that Dill says seems to be dogging her lately.
"I truly believe there's this conspiracy theory out there, who knows who's promoting it. There's been letters to the editor and a lot of people I talk to", Dill said during a news conference Friday.
Dill says she's not concerned about splitting the vote. She says Maine has a tradition of 3 and 4 candidate races and this race for Maine's open seat in the U.S. Senate is no different.
