Burundi is one of the smallest countries in Central Africa where the ritual of drumming comes from an ancient royal heritage and customs, with technique passed down from father to son. Their craft remains timeless: ancient and compelling yet as electrifyingly modern as any contemporary beat. The thunderous sound of the drums with the graceful yet athletic dance that accompanies this masterful performance represents an important part of Burundi's musical heritage. Their performances are the ultimate African drum experience.
The Royal Drummers and Dancers of Burundi will perform at Merrill Auditorium on Thursday, October 18th at 7:30 PM as part of the Portland Ovations Global Traditions Series.
