PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) - Police have arrested two men from New York after a pair of home invasions Sunday.
Around 5:00 AM Sunday, two men approached a woman standing outside an apartment on Park Avenue. The men pistol whipped her, forced her inside and then made off with electronics.
About five hours later two men kicked in the door at an apartment on Cumberland avenue, threatening the occupants with guns and again stealing electronics.
Witnesses told police they men escaped in a small gray car.
Around 12:30 AM Monday, a Portland police officer stopped a gray Acura.
A police dog signaled that it smelled contraband, so police searched the car and found a loaded hand gun. A background check revealed that both men are felons in New York, and felons can't legally own guns.
So police arrested the men, Kaemar Wilson and Fitzgerald Carryl.
Police say during the arrest, Carryl tried to grab an officers gun and police subdued him with tazers.
Police have only charged Wilson in the robberies but both men are facing a handful of other charges and the case remains open.
