(NEWS CENTER) -- A new report projects the rates of obesity will Skyrocket by the year 2030-- with 39 states expected to have an obesity rate of more than 50%. Maine is among them.
According to the report-- if obesity rates continue on their current track-- the rate in Maine could reach 55% in 20 years. This of course could stress our healthcare system, since obesity contributes to diabetes, heart disease and stroke. The medical costs associated with treating those preventable diseases could increase up to 66 billion per year.
The annual report from Trust for America's Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation offer solutions to the obesity epidemic -- focusing on kids.
