PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- An organization that has been helping women in need put together a wardrobe for work is finding itself in need of money.
Donations at Dress For Success Maine are down 60 percent from last year, and the organization is counting on a fundraiser later this month to turn things around. Dress for Success has lots of clothing and a waiting list of clients, but it's running out of money to pay the rent, phone and utility bills.
Executive Director Kim Allen says if the fundraiser isn't successful, the organization may have to scale back. "We hope that with this fundraiser, we can reach our goals for the end of the year. And we may have to -- if it's not as successful, we have to look at how are we going to stay open," she said.
The 2nd Annual Fashion Show to benefit Dress for Success is scheduled for Thursday, September 27th from 6-10 pm at The Woodlands Club. Tickets are $25. And there will be a silent auction and raffle. The organization is opening a Bangor boutique soon. Allen says the Bangor Housing Authority has donated that space and so there is no overhead there. She does not expect that boutique would be affected.
