BANGOR, Maine (NEWS CENTER)-- Eight men from Norway are taking a trip up and down the North Eastern Seaboard to visit some places where the Vikings may have visited. And one of those stops took them to Bangor.

One of the men on the trip Christopher Olsen said the trip started in Halifax and will eventually end in New York. The men are traveling on a boat called the Norumbega. Olsen said one of the places that Vikings came to was a place called Norumbega which might be modern day Bangor.

"There are mythics about Norumbega has been for a long time and so already on old maps, ortelius maps in 1560's and 70's there's clearly marked Newval France and Norumbega and the Norumbega mark is right here in Bangor. Right here the flood tides went, they stopped around here so they could sail the whole way up here with relatively easy sailing," Olsen said

Olsen said the trip will last about two weeks and he and the rest of the men are having a lot of fun looking for old Viking heritage along the way.
