PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Maine's highest court is hearing arguments on appeals from a man serving 40 years for murder and two other men convicted of manslaughter in separate cases.
The Maine Supreme Judicial Court is to hear oral arguments Wednesday in the appeal of 34-year-old Nathanael Nightingale of Burlington. He was convicted of murder and manslaughter in the 2009 shooting deaths of a husband and wife who ran a pawnshop and loan business in Webster Plantation.
The court will also hear the appeal of 24-year-old Garrett Cheney, who was convicted of manslaughter in the 2010 hit-and-run death of a University of Maine student in Orono.
Twenty-year-old Nicklas Jones is also appealing his manslaughter conviction in the 2009 death of his 3-month-old daughter.
