PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Low income, sick patients had free access to medical marijuana in Deering Oaks Park in Portland.

The event was organized by Charles Winott - who has been using pot as medicine for 25 years. He says it saved his life.
Winott was diagnosed with AIDS, and suffered nausea so severe he couldn't keep his pills down. He says marijuana cures that.
Winott says the goal of the Medical Marijuana giveaway was to help poor, terminally ill patients get marijuana as medicine, and to connect those patients with those who can grow it for them.
