(NEWS CENTER) - Two national surveys say that Maine is a bad state to retire to, but some people in the retirement business -- and some retirees -- think those surveys are wrong.
A survey at money-rates.com lists Maine as the worst state to retire to, while topretirements.com puts Maine at 9th.
The AARP posted the results of one of those surveys on their website.
The survey says Maine's economy, taxes and climate make it a poor place to retire.
Interestingly enough, the AARP last year rated Portland one of the ten best cities in the country to retire in.
"I think it's absolutely a bogus claim and not what we see," says retirement community owner John Wasileski, "What we see day after day is people wanting to move to Maine to be near their sons and daughters that have already moved here."
