PORTLAND, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Two time olympic Gold Medalist Seth Wescott brought his medals and advice with him to share with kids at Portland's East End School.

Wescott shared with the kids his experiences learning to snowboard and how he adapted as the fledgling sport developed into a phenomena and eventually into an Olympic sport.

He told the third, fourth and fifth graders how his parents made him get outside and active, and through his play he found his passion.  He says snowboarding taught him how to be brave and accomplish goals, and told the kids through hard work, they too can realize their dreams.

"Kids see sporting events, or they see these great things like the Super Bowl or the World Series, and they don't realize that everyone of those people on that field had at on time been a little kid just like you guys and they had a dream and they worked really hard at it and they had to take thousands of little steps to get there," stated Wescott.

While winter has given way to spring in recent weeks, the appearance was sponsored by Winterkids, a group devoted to getting kids outside and active enjoying Maine in the winter.
