EDDINGTON, Maine (NEWS CENTER)--So far this year many winter activities have been cancelled because of the weather. However, the weather has been good enough to make ice on Little Fitts Pond in Eddington to host the third annual Paul Bunyan Pond Hockey Tournament on Saturday.
"We've probably got eight or 10 inches of ice. So we're expecting a good day come Saturday," John Weinmann said.
Weinmann is working on the ice and is part of the crew who is working to get the ice ready for the tournament. The work includes smoothing out the ice and drilling holes in the ice to put the goals in.
This is a welcome site for those who are working to get the event ready after what happened last year.
"We had to cancel last year because of all the slop on the ice so we were anxious about whether we were gonna pull it off this year or not," Weinmann said.
But this event is not all about hockey. Teams have to pay an entry fee of $310, and all of the money from those fees goes to charity to help children thanks to the Bangor Breakfast Area Rotary.
"That's are main mission is helping children in this Bangor area," Weinmann said.
Currently only four teams are registered to play in the tournament, and there is still room for more teams to register.
Registration starts at 7 a.m. Saturday. For more information you can visit pbpondhockey.com.
Weinmann also said that he wants to thank the different people and businesses who donated time or equipment to help make this event possible.
