CASTINE, Maine (NEWS CENTER)--Seventh and eighth grade students at the Adams school in Castine are learning the finer points of Maine's boat building history.

They are building a flat bottom Dorey row boat.  The students are only using traditional wood working tools for the project.

School leaders say the project is the schools way of bringing book lessons to the real world.

Students say they can't wait to test out the boat in water.  It should be ready to be launched in Penobscot Bay around the first of June.
